Bentley AutoPLANT Plant Design Workgroup

A solution for innovative 3D modeling and detailed design

Bentley AutoPLANT Plant Design is an object-based 3D piping design and modeling application that runs on AutoCAD. The system is built on powerful object oriented technology, yet it is easy to use and customize. The software enables users to interactively route and place piping components in a 3D environment. Piping can be used to generate annotated and dimensioned orthographic and report quantities from the 3D model. Piping Isometric drawings can be automatically created from the 3D Piping model.

AutoPLANT Piping provides state-of-the-art 3D modeling capabilities previously unavailable in any AutoCAD-based package. This capability is achieved through ObjectARX technology, using 3D objects to represent plant components. These custom objects provide superior representations from any viewing perspective while using a fraction of the file size required using standard AutoCAD shapes.

OpenPlant PID provides a fully configurable user interface designed to make your job easier by automating traditionally time-intensive tasks.OpenPlant PID provides companies with an indispensable tool for creating "intelligent plant schematics." Utilizing the power of MicroStation® to create the "intelligent plant schematics," companies and engineers can now learn more about their plant design in a fraction of the time that is needed to study hundreds of layout drawings or 3D models.OpenPlant PID provides a cost efficient application for companies by reducing the design and documentation time for capturing process information for system design and plant studies (HAZOP studies, etc.), ensuring compliance to OSHA 1910 and ISO standards. Through its "scaleable design," OpenPlant PID is suitable for large, mid-sized and small engineering companies and plant operators providing a key tool for the lifecycle design and documentation of process plants.

Key capabilities

  • Intelligent Cells - all data for the equipment, valves, pipes, and so are maintained with the cell in the ISO 15926 data format
  • Parametric Components - for example, parametric vessels with dynamic heads and internals, parametric control valves with dynamic actuators and end conditions and more.
  • Unique Tag Identification - allows other applications to import objects from OpenPlant PID, make changes, bring the data back to OpenPlant PID and synchronize with the original items - even if the tag number is changed - or were not defined in the first place.
  • Process Line Management - enhanced user interface for viewing and editing of line data.
  • Assembly Management - complete management of standard assemblies. Assemblies can be placed as a group of components or as individual components. Data can be manipulated on the assembly prior to insertion.
  • Improved Component Navigation, Management and Manipulation - zoom, highlight and isolate components automatically through the component navigation window. Create intelligent cells and associate to the ISO 15926 model from Microstation cells, AutoCAD blocks, or from simple CAD elements. Component data views can be dynamically modified by users.

Key Benefits

  • Rapid Creation of Intelligent P&IDs - OpenPlant PID is a complete package with all the components needed to create P&IDs quickly and consistently. It was designed first and foremost as an intelligent, data driven (or rules driven) package leveraging the best features of both AutoPLANT P&ID and PlantSpace P&ID. OpenPlant PID is designed to be the most productive solution on the market for creating P&IDs.
  • Native Integration with the ISO15926 Data Model - OpenPlant PID is the first P&ID application based on completely open data model. The base schema for OpenPlant PID is the ISO15926 standard. Any other application that is mapped to the ISO 15926 schema through the Bentley Class Editor can natively interoperate with OpenPlant PID. This means any data created in OpenPlant PID is available to be shared with any other applications without the need for complex or bespoke APIs. The data you create is all yours!
  • Automatic Generation of P&IDs - OpenPlant PID gives users the ability to automatically generate their P&IDs from an XML instance. Whether these XML files originate from AutoPLANT P&ID, PlantSpace P&ID, AXSYS.Process, OpenPlant PID or another schematics application mapped to the ISO15926 data standard, any of them can be imported and automatically regenerated in OpenPlant PID.
  • Consistency Checking - OpenPlant PID comes with a rules engine that allows users to create design checking rules that are configured based on the ISO 15926 model. The user can select from one of the available persistence modes to determine when the rules are run, immediately, on a timed basis, or on user request only. When a rule finds a component in an invalid design state, the component will be flagged for follow up. The rules engine allows company specific rules to be separated from the open data model giving organizations the flexibility to create their competitive edge.
  • Design History - OpenPlant PID allows users to roll back the data and associated P&ID changes to previous revisions through the Design History feature. Using the design history feature, the graphics and associated data can be updated to reflect earlier designs as required.
  • Enhanced Assembly Management - OpenPlant PID provides extensive capabilities for management of assemblies. Assemblies can be placed as a group of components or as individual components. Data is automatically associated with the assembly which can be modified prior to the actual use and insertion of the assembly within a P&ID. This allows organizations to define, maintain and manage complete graphical and engineering best practices in one place.
  • Support for Parametric Components - OpenPlant PID supports the use of parametric components based on relevant engineering information and has a dynamic user interfaces to preview the component prior to insertion. Parametric vessels with dynamic heads and internals, parametric control valves with dynamic actuators and selectable end conditions are just a few of the options available in OpenPlant PID.
  • Supports DWG and DGN Formats - OpenPlant PID can save work in either a DWG or DGN format in order to produce intelligent deliverables. The drawing intelligence will persist regardless of the format of the deliverable chosen.
  • Consistency with company standards - OpenPlant PID has administrative functions designed to ensure consistent data quality. Administrators can disable features like scaling of equipment in order to maintain a consistent look and feel for all P&IDs done on a specific project.

Work remotely or connected with the market’s most productive and easy-to-use 3D plant design and modeling software

Owner-operators as well as engineering design firms will see the benefits of using this easy-to-use, interoperable plant design software. OpenPlant Modeler V8i is the first 3D CAD plant modeling software to use ISO 15926 as an intrinsic data model as specified by the iRING user community. Like all OpenPlant products, OpenPlant Modeler V8i incorporates the ongoing and ever-advancing capabilities of MicroStation V8i, the market-leading platform for plant creation and every infrastructure discipline. OpenPlant Modeler V8i alsonatively supports workflows combining all pertinent plant software standards, including DGN, RealDWG, point clouds, and PDF.

Product Data Sheet

Most Productive and Easy-to-Learn Tool
OpenPlant Modeler V8i is a specification-driven modeling system that matches how a plant designer works. Using the highly intuitive MicroStation V8i user interface, already familiar to many users, the rapid creation of 3D models including piping, HVAC, and electrical components is made easy. With the assistance of MicroStation features such as AccuDraw and AccuSnap, the placement of components requires a few simple clicks of the mouse.

Easy Reuse of Corporate Standards
Existing designs, models, and associated data, as well as catalogs and specifications from PDS, AutoPLANT, and PlantSpace, can be easily reused, enabling faster project start up and continuity of plant design.

Piping Specification from Multiple Formats
To ensure project compliance, piping specifications will limit the components that can be placed to what is in the specification. Running Specification Checktools validates that all components in a line meet the piping spec and will reduce checking time required, saving you time and money on your plant design projects.

Piping Plus
Model integrated HVAC components alongside piping in single integrated project model.

Open, No Proprietary Lock-In
Existing PDS designs and other third-party models can be reviewed and augmented to produce ISO 15926 output that enables future data reuse. In addition to third-party tool sets, OpenPlant Modeler provides tools that enable the migration of all PlantSpace Design Series models and data to the next generation of MicroStation-based plant design tools.

Freedom of Work Location
ProjectWise V8i Managed Workspace provides a centrally administered workspace, freeing the designer from having to be connected at all times and allowing work to be performed in a disconnected mode. All updates to design session and workspace are transferred upon connection.

Interoperable with OpenPlant Plant and Instrumentation Diagram Software
Interoperate with OpenPlant PowerPID - 2D/3D comparison.

Point Cloud Support
Interact directly with point clouds in the 3D model.

Model Component Browser and Pipeline Manager
The Model Component Browser provides designers complete insight into the plant design project to see which components are available to check out. Due to the dynamic check-in and check-out process, working with OpenPlant ModelServer V8i allows the designer to add or subtract components from the working session as required. This allows the user to work on an individual line, a complete system, or the whole project.

OpenPlant ModelServer V8i, which executes on top of ProjectWise V8i, allows the designer to be located anywhere in the world for a truly global project execution.

Modern Review and Publishing Functionality
The latest MicroStation V8i capabilities such as Dynamic Views make working in large models much easier. Plotting is available to Adobe PDF (2D and 3D) and many other formats.

Designers can quickly rectify mistakes in their design session by using the MicroStation V8i Undo command, with no fear of corrupting their plant design or database records.

Plant Design Collaboration and Project Management Software

OpenPlant ModelServer V8i is the first plant design server software to effectively and productively manage and distribute plant design components across global projects without the need for database replication. This capability is powered by the software’s intraoperability with ProjectWise V8i server for team collaboration.

Product Data Sheet

File management is key to the efficient exchange of deliverables and work packages across different organizations, while component management is critical to an organization’s productivity and quality of work. Now, users can finally meet both requirements using a single plant design, collaboration, and project management software application.

OpenPlant ModelServer V8i reduces project schedules, and thus costs, for new plant design and construction as well as maintenance and retrofit of existing plants. While providing scalability from small to very large projects, OpenPlant ModelServer V8i gives control to the individual designer. As components are finished, they can be checked in to be freed up for other designers. There are no predetermined models or files that have to be created on project start. Projects can start sooner and provide flexibility to your design team locations.

Global Project Collaboration and Management
Utilizing ProjectWise V8i to manage files and components, designers can easily check out only what they need to work on and tightly version control all deliverables, regardless of their global work location or connectivity status.

Global Tracking and Management of Design Work
Based on any and all plant project components from any work location, users can quickly create reports to provide clear visibility into the plant design work of today’s loosely coupled, globally sourced project teams. OpenPlant Reporting V8i is a separate module that works in conjunction with OpenPlant ModelServer V8i. All projects participants can access the current status of any or all components, using a simple-to-use interface. Reports provide maximum project control and are generated through OpenPlant Reporting V8i, a no-cost reporting application.

Central Component Repository
All components of a plant design project are available from one central location, reducing project collaboration costs and errors. A configurable tree browser displays information in the model allowing plant designers to configure different views, such as components being edited. The designer determines how best to view the data for the task at hand to help reduce errors or emissions from the design.

Multiple Discipline Management and Security
All project participants across all disciplines, whether local or remote, can be centrally managed. OpenPlant ModelServer V8i provides for remote access to all components of the plant project. Security within ProjectWise exposes only the proper working set and restricts edits to users who have been granted the appropriate permissions. This provides consultants or joint ventures access to the project as required, from wherever they may reside in the world.

3D Index and Queries
OpenPlant ModelServer V8i allows designers to specify any valid 3D MicroStation component as a volume. By doing so, constraints are removed on how the project was configured or set up to predetermine what designers get to work on. Checkout determines what designers work on during the active session, whether it is a single component, an entire line, a complete system, or the entire design project. When work is finished, it is checked back in to update the central repository, which frees up those components for others to check out and move on to the next work area.

Revisions and Versioning
Since OpenPlant ModelServer V8i works in conjunction with the underlying technology of ProjectWise V8i project management and collaboration software, versions of all documents checked in can be automatically versioned. This applies to any of the deliverables, such as isometrics, orthographic drawings, or reports.

Automation Tools for i-models
OpenPlant ModelServer V8i SELECTseries 5 has automation tools to create and manage i-models.

Overview

In the Bentley Data Manager, all Tagged data resides in a Tabular form within different Lists categorized in “Views” tab. Reports in different formats can be exported, primarily for Excel, and hence User desires certain customization on that front. Depending on requirement, some Users do not wish to see “Pipe Run” in the Line List report from Data Manager, hence customizing it by excluding Pipe Runs is an important part of customizing the Views in Data Manager.

Steps to Accomplish

1. First step is to sync Data “Drawing to Database” from OpenPlant PID and then view it in the Data Manager.

2. The “Line List” under “Views” tab contains all Pipeline related Data including Pipe run in Data Manager.

3. Create a New Line list by right click on “Line list” View.

4. On the next Window, select “from current view”.

5. Name it & click on Design.

6. Click on “Design with Access”.

7. Keep the two tables in green and remove the rest.

8. Drag key tag from Process to TAG_REG and right click on the connecting link that occurs thereafter.

9. Select the 3rd option in the next window and hit OK.

10. Go to Design View and Add Column “TAG_NO” as shown below.

11. The Exclusion of “Pipe Run” is achieved as it can be seen below.
